Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.
Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
The player's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
He rescued four initial chances in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
