The Former President's System of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's intense desire for retribution has swiftly transformed into a organized apparatus. During the year since his election, the president's fury and caprices have adopted the shape of government actions in a manner analogous to past authoritarian systems. Justice department figures who fail to comply are immediately dismissed and substituted by loyalists. Opposing leaders who challenge him encounter prosecution, court proceedings and sanctions. Adversaries have been labeled under executive directives as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with criminal charges as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Remade

Each case involving legal action of political opponents and leniency for supporters exhibits its own particular characteristics. However, regardless of their specific character, they represent manifestations of what has arisen as a systematic method. These incidents are anything but coincidental. The administration's removal of DoJ prosecutors and law enforcement officials, coupled with his installation of devotees in senior roles, started rapidly, quickly assumed a regularity, and has now been formed into a system. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been remade into political agencies under the president's explicit direction to implement his wishes. Injustice has been rendered routine. It represents the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is focused with punishing the chief's perceived enemies than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Inside the Structure

The foundation of this mechanism has been revealed in the court filing of multiple ex- senior law enforcement executives submitted in late summer in the US district court in Washington against agency head an administration figure and attorney general Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of retribution against them for what Defendants deemed to be a refusal to demonstrate sufficient allegiance”. The document states that one official, the ex- interim leader, recounts a conversation in which the director “publicly acknowledged the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

The official had attempted to defend FBI agents from being terminated, the complaint claims. The director told him that “administration officials” – perceived by the official to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had ordered him to dismiss all those who they identified as having participated in a criminal investigation against him. The filing adds: “He stated that he had to terminate the personnel his bosses told him to remove, because his capacity to keep his own job was contingent on the dismissal of the personnel who worked on matters involving the President. The director commented that there was no option he or Driscoll could do to stop these or any other terminations, because ‘the agency sought to put the President in prison and he remembers.’” Once he informed the director he was disregarding the bureau's own policies, Patel reportedly said “he knew that and he realized the character of the immediate dismissals were likely unlawful”.

Widespread Effects

After Patel's claimed confession to Driscoll, the DoJ and the FBI have been dismantled and reorganized for Trump's revenge apparatus. Multiple of the agency's senior executives were dismissed or forced out in the first days of the administration. Approximately numerous lawyers at the department have accepted a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of seven federal prosecutors, including those in the Manhattan division, stepped down in objection over what they considered as partisan influence in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in exchange for his collaboration with Trump's ICE detentions of immigrants. The ethics division of the justice department, which manages misconduct investigations, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The rights protection unit has been decimated: seventy percent of its employees has departed. A third of top officials at DoJ have resigned. The division implementing environmental law has experienced the exit of a majority its leadership.

Incentives and Sanctions

Concerning the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, Danielle Sassoon, resigned in dissent against what she described as the “trade-off”. Tom Homan, his “border czar,” appeared as the implementer with the mayor on Fox News to announce: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll be back in New York City.”. And, another figure, previously the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who brokered the agreement, was awarded an court role, a possible pathway to the judicial branch.

His immunity for crimes perpetrated while in government, granted by the unprecedented judgment of the conservative on the supreme court, thus preventing his criminal case over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his public standing for the national vote, is the basis on which he stands to protect his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to permit corruption. The impact of the supreme court decision permeates his presidency and the GOP down to its bones. The legal case has escalated. Similar to Richard Nixon's legal adviser the figure said about the Watergate
